This old south Texas farmstead has had two previous homes on the building site and dates back to the early 1800's and perhaps earlier. The creek that runs behind the property was a trail used by Indians and the Spanish to travel from Laredo to San Antonio. There is rumor of Spanish treasure down by the creek. In the 1960's a local historian used a metal detector along the banks to find a Moorish Moon Shaped Sword and pieces of a ball and powder gun, but no treasure has been found to date. An old Currier/ Blacksmith shop once sat near the home site and close to ALS 88 Design Build Offices. The Blacksmith shop serviced those travelers and cowboys that used the old cow trail. On the East of the Sustainable Farmhouse sits an unusually large Yellow Pine. This antique site has a constant breeze from the southeast and raptor birds sometimes use the thermal updrafts to gain altitude and nest in that tree every spring. In the spring of 2006 a pair of Mexican Golden Eagles nested in that pine, 2008 Peregrine Falcons and 2010 Mexican Bald Eagles now live there for the season. The"SustainableFarmhouse" a GOLD LEEDS residential project is the third house on the site; click on sub-link for residential projects.
